Mortal Shell Stats

Attributes

Durability (Health)

Health is displayed as a red bar on the bottom left part of the screen. The amount of Health depends on the Shell the player is currently using. While in the Foundling form, players will only have 1 Health.

While using a Shell, if your health reaches 0, the Foundling will be expelled from the shell. Players will be able to either fight as the Foundling or come back to the shell. If the shell drops to 0 health again, you will die and return to the last checkpoint.

Health can be recovered by using some Consumable Items by using the Seal Infusion - Healing or by some Abilities.

Stamina

Stamina is displayed as a green bar on the bottom left part of the screen. The amount of Stamina depends on the Shell the player is currently using. Stamina is used to attack and dodge. If players run out of stamina, they won't be able to dodge or attack. Stamina can be recovered by avoid attacking or dodging for a short period of time.

Resolve

Resolve is displayed as small bars on the bottom left part of the screen above your Health. The amount of Resolve depends on the Shell the player is currently using. Resolve can be used to perform Weapon Abilities or to Tarnished Seal Abilities. Weapon Abilities consume 2 bars of resolve. Resolve can be acquired by dealing damage to Enemies or Bosses.

Defense

Hardening

Hardening is a key mechanic in Mortal Shell. It allows you to harden, preventing all damage dealt by any incoming attack. When you get hit, you will also get a small window where damage is prevented. If an enemy were to hit you while you are hardened, he will be staggered for a short period of time.

The Hardening Ability can be used at any given time (Including Attack Animation, Dodge, and even while in the air). And you will remain static until it breaks. Once it does, the animation will resume. This can be used to take advantage of many situations, like performing a slow swing and then harden when its about to strike. When you get hit, the hardening will break and you'll immediately hit your opponent.

Once the Hardening breaks you will have to wait a small cooldown before using it again.

The Hardening Ability can be used by all Shells and even with the Foundling form.

Parrying and Tarnished Seal

Once you acquire the Tarnished Seal you will be able to Parry enemy attacks by using the designated button. In order to parry an incoming strike, you'll need to time your parry just before the attack hits you.

When you successfully parry an attack, the enemy will become staggered for a short period of time.

If you have enough resolve, you can spend it to perform a powerful riposte using one of the Tarnished Seal Abilities. For example, the Seal Infusion - Healing allows you to heal yourself, deal additional damage and throw your enemy into the ground.

Some attacks are unparryable. The Tarnished Seal will glow red (You can see it on your back), and you will hear a small pulse sound. To avoid these attacks you can either use your Hardening or dodge.
